Dear Parent or Guardian:
Someone in our child care center has impetigo. This is a common bacterial
skin infection among young children. Most often it is caused by either
staphylococcal or streptococcal bacteria. The infection usually appears as a red
rash that develops into blisters which rupture and form a honey colored crust on
the surface. The blisters are generally itchy and quite contagious.
If you notice any signs of a rash or sores on your child, please keep her/him
home and consult your health care provider. Antibiotic treatment will be
prescribed. If your child has impetigo, please keep him/her home until she/he
has received antibiotics for at least 24 hours. Thank for your cooperation
The spread of this infection to other members of your family can be prevented
by careful handwashing, especially after touching the rash or blisters.
